| Telephone Use | Mexico’s country code is 52. Dialing numbers from Mexico - international calls are made by dialing 00+country code+area code+ telephone number. Dialing other numbers in Mexico - Mexican calls work much like US calls. 1+city code+telephone number. Cell phones in Mexico have either an 045 or 044 prefix. These prefixes are only used when calling a cell phone inside Mexico and not for international calls. Emergency Numbers: Police/Ambulance/Fire 060 |
| Local SIM Card | Buy more minutes at convenience stores, tobacco stores and phone stores. Better yet, set up an account so you can just phone in and buy more during your trip. Save those contact numbers provided with your SIM card. |
| Money | Traveler’s checks are still widely accepted in Mexico
although the exchange rates are always better at banks
than at hotels and money kiosks. ATMs are plentiful and are easily accessed in English or Spanish. |
| Electrical | Mexico’s voltage is 120V. The same as in the United States. If you have electronics or appliances that operate at a higher voltage, you will need to take not only an adaptor but a convertor too. As in the US, some outlets will be two prong and some will be three. Best to buy before departure and not depend on finding them once in Mexico. Do not buy at the airport as you are paying the highest possible rate for adaptors and convertors. |
